Architecture.
Bridge at Torenvliet, N206 Tjalmaweg, Katwijk-Leiden, The Netherlands
As a photographer, my love for architecture drives my work. I am drawn to the play of light, shadow, and shape in buildings. Each structure tells a story, reflecting its culture and history. When I photograph an architectural piece, I aim to capture its beauty and the feelings it inspires. The height of skyscrapers at sunset, the details of old facades, and the balance in modern designs all create unique opportunities for exploration.
I enjoy trying different angles to show the essence of each building. Shooting from below can highlight a building's grandeur, while close-ups reveal craftsmanship and texture. I find excitement in discovering new ways to capture the architectural scene around me.
I also believe architecture interacts with its environment. The blend of nature in city design or the contrast between old and new adds depth to my images, encouraging viewers to think about the wider context. Each photo serves as a reminder of the beauty and complexity of human creations, encouraging us to notice the structures we often overlook.
Jökulsárlón Bridge, Iceland
Jökulsárlón Bridge, or Breiðamerkurbrú, connects Route 1 to the diamond beach by the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in Iceland. Built in 1975, it allows visitors to enjoy breathtaking views of drifting icebergs and black sand. You can't drive along the south coast of Iceland without eventually passing over this bridge.
The glacier Breiðamerkurjökull once extended near the highway, but as it has retreated 5.6 km over the past century, while the lagoon has expanded. This tourist hotspot may eventually become a fjord, depending on global warming. Despite protective efforts, the bridge's lifespan may be limited.
Jökulsárlón has served as a filming location for four Hollywood movies: *A View to a Kill*, *Die Another Day*, *Lara Croft: Tomb Raider*, and *Batman Begins*.
